The 39th president of the United States who served from 1977 to 1981 as a Democrat. He was known for his humanitarian liberal platform and federally pardoning every Vietnam War draft dodger on the second day of his presidency. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.  

Before Fame

He became a member of the Future Farmers of America, which would later be known as the National FFA Organization, while he was in high school.

Trivia

His presidency was remembered for the EPA Love Canal Superfund, airline and brewery deregulation, and the boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. In 2019, he became the first ever US president to live past the age of 94.

Family Life

He was the first president to be born in a hospital. His father was a successful local businessman, while his mother worked as a registered nurse. He married Rosalynn Smith in 1946 and they had four children named Jack, James, Donnel, and Amy.

He was challenged in the 1980 primary for the Democratic Party nomination by Ted Kennedy.
