Public comprehensive and magnet school which became the second largest high school in the state of Maryland in terms of square footage. It became Prince George's County Public Schools district's second Center for the Visual and Performing Arts magnet high school.
The school was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of "America's Best High Schools" in 2009. The arts building was renamed Jim Henson School of Arts, Media and Communications in 2002.
