Badger State
The state of Wisconsin is located in the Upper Midwest region. Before the European settlers arrived the region was occupied by the Algonquian and Siouan indigenous communities. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of Milwaukee. The state's official bird is the American robin. It was the 30th state to join the Union.
The state's motto is, "Forward." Lead mining was a big part of the region's early economy. The state is a main producer of dairy and as such has been given the nickname, America's Dairyland.
