Vermont is located in the New England region of the US. The area was originally inhabited by the Algonquian and Iroquois prior to European settlement. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of Burlington. The state's official mammal is the Morgan horse. Vermont was the 14th state to join the Union.
Vermont is home to nearly one half of the dairy farms in New England. the open fly fishing reel was patented in Vermont. There are more than 100 wooden covered bridges in the state.
