The US state of Utah is located in the Mountain West area of the Western region. Before the first Europeans arrived the territory was home to the Puebloans, Navajo and Ute indigenous peoples. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of Salt Lake City. The state's official mammal is the Rocky Mountain Elk.
The state's motto is, "Industry." The state is home to the world headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. More than 50% of the state's population identifies as Mormon.
