A country in South America bordered with Argentina and Brazil. The country was ruled by a military dictatorship until 1985. It is a democratic constitutional republic, with a president who serves as both head of state and head of government. The country hosted the first ever men's soccer World Cup in 1930.
Uruguay’s national anthem lasts more than five minutes. It is the only country in Latin America which is entirely outside of the tropics. It is the smallest Spanish-speaking country in South America.
