A landlocked country bordered by Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. It is a democratic federal republic. It is known as a neutral state, given the country's neutral position in regional and international conflicts.
The Red Cross Organization was established in Switzerland in 1863. The country is home to the headquarters of many major international institutions including the WTO, the WHO and the United Nations. It has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansch.
