The Palmetto State
South Carolina is located in the Southeastern region of the US. It lies along the Atlantic Coast and shares its northern border with North Carolina. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of Greenville. The state's official dog breed is the Boykin spaniel. It was the 8th overall state to join the Union.
In the 1700s the state was originally a royal colony. It was named after Charles I of England. The very first submersible crafts were made in South Carolina.
