A landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Austria and Czech Republic. The first Slovak Republic during World War II as a partially-recognized client state of Nazi Germany. It became an independent state after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
The country has180 castles and 425 chateaux. More than 6000 caves have been discovered in Slovakia. A popular dish is Bryndzove Pirohy, which are sheep cheese dumplings.
