An island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It consists of two main landmasses—the North Island and the South Island and more than 700 smaller islands. The country's geography includes glaciers, fiords, mountains, plains, subtropical forest, volcanic plateau and miles of coastline.
It was the first country in to grant the vote to all adult women. Livestock is a major industry and for every person living in New Zealand there are at least 10 sheep. The country has a bird named a Kiwi, which is also slang for a New Zealander.
