The Granite State
The US state of New Hampshire is located in the New England region. The state is the 5th-smallest by total land area. The state's largest metropolitan area is that of the Greater Boston area. It was the first of the original colonies to form a government independent of the crown. The state's official mammal is the White-tailed deer.
Prior to colonization the area was inhabited by the Algonquian. New Hampshire was the first US state to ever grow potatoes. The state is also home to the sprawling White Mountain National Forest.
