A country on the West African coast bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea and the Ivory Coast. The Atlantic Ocean is located to its south and southwest. The country began in the early 19th century as a project of the American Colonization Society.
It is one of three nations that uses the imperial measurement system, along with the United States and Myanmar. Liberia and Ethiopia are the only African countries that Europeans did not colonize. Timber and rubber are the country's main export items.
