A country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered by Estonia, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, the country declared its independence and was recognized by Soviet Russia and Germany in 1920.
The first decorated Christmas tree on record was one in Riga back in 1510. Summer solstice is the biggest celebration of the year. A popular dish is Sklandrausis, a round pie with dough made from unleavened rye flour.
