Situated on the East Bank of the Jordan River. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Israel and the Palestinian West Bank. The sovereign state is a constitutional monarchy, but the king holds wide executive and legislative powers.
The country is home to more than 100,000 archaeological and religious sites. It is famous for the iconic City of Petra. Its national dish is Mansaf, a lamb shank cooked in a fermented yoghurt broth.
