A Latin American country that shares borders with five other countries: Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Equador and Panama. It is the only country in South America with coastlines and islands along both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Its major exports are petroleum, coffee, coal, nickel, cut flowers and bananas.
The country has been shaken over many decades by civil wars and clashes between government forces and paramilitary groups. The city Medellin was once called "murder capital of the world." The country's most famous attraction is the Walled City of Cartagena.
